Thanksgiving favors

Thanksgiving brings all family and friends together for a big meal, a fun game of football, and maybe even a Turkey Trot 5K run. We talk about Black Friday ads, Christmas shopping /events. Its a big day. I usually hold it as an Open house/ Buffet style meal for those that have family and visit others, and friends pop in. I look forward to it.  This year is no exception.

 

 

 

We will rise and run a 5K, after the turkey is put in the oven. The sides are prepared the night before and will be completed upon our return from the race. It actually may sound more complicated than it really it. 

 

 

I make the table favors, that actually will house Andes mints, since everyone loves that at some time during the day. I also made some for the craft fair, and they loved them. Of course I need like 20 for my day- and made 40, so I am pretty much a pro now on the "turkey" making part!

 

 

Using the matchbox die to create the boxes, and a series of punches for the turkey. I used some retired SU! paper for the favors, when it ran out I used solid colors found in the designer paper, so it looks pretty among the bowl.

Just a little thanks, Just for you...

I make little gifts for the kind gestures people do..I tell the kids "its a mean mean world out there, so I am making it better one gift of thanks at time".

For instance, the neighbor who will picks up my trashcans when they are blowing in the street on garbage day before I get home for work - he scored some homemade bread this holiday season. The co workers who will see my coffee cup in the kitchen and will fill it up with coffee and bring to me, or wash it up - get all sorts of goodies from sweet treats to office calendars/items . The are the best critics too! LOL

Recently, I had a stray puppy that hid under my shed, and I had to call the township fire company to come and get her out... so made these.. to give them, and filled with
chocolates. {{EDITED 1/18/11: Puppy has surgery, recovering well, and is currently in a loving home about 4 miles from my house. Officer who took her to the vets went on cruise, and recently got back in touch with me.. he was shocked I followed up since most do not.}}

I figured two things - 1) it was my way of showing I grateful for what they did.
                                2) After they ate the chocolates, they could refill it or put a gift card in & pass it forward.

Guess I should have shown you all 23 I made, since I had no idea how many I needed...when I showed up with the and the fire chief said, "15 Volunteer Fire man showed up, Ma'am", then he pointed at the township police building that was next door - "Two officers were dispatched" and he nodded and walked away... so off I went. When I was done with the officersw  I had a few left, and gave them to the receptionist at the front desk. It just seemed like the right thing to do.  It gave me such a great feeling- to be able to thank them in a manner I wasn't sure how to do.. though its their job, I am sure they do not get the thanks they deserve!

National Boss Day

Its Boss's Day!!!!

I do not work my FT on Saturday, I give this to my boss yesterday. She loves any of my paper crafts - so I knew she would love this.

Pins seem to fit perfectly into the Matchbox - so I made my boss's with Concord Crush & Pear Pizzaz (two of her favorite colors - when Sage retired - she was heart broken... now I am glad she has picked another favorite).

Its not often I get to work with fabrics. I like them but they do not always like me. I got this fabric back in July, I remember because I had big hopes I could pull off this pin for my Boss' birthday. Yea, that didn't happen.

I used the Circles (Big Shot Die) and used the LARGEST and the MEDIUM, and four pieces of each. Then I turned on my heat gun, and waited until the material started to melt. I did press them down alittle flatter when they were warm so they would still look like circles.
I should have used more, but I am happy with this outcome.

I got out the needle and thread and used a cute little purple button I had to tie it all together. And then use a clasp for back. Here it is all put together, for her surprise.

Tropical Oasis

Its time!! Its finally here!!! Its time for me to believe I am on a tropical island.... Sipping cocktails ..... being cooled by a palm leave fan... I can smell the coconuts, hear the waves crashing on the shore... YEAH RIGHT!!!!!



Its time for my daughter's 13th birthday party... no relaxation there!!! Its been 3 months in the preparing stages. Its been nonstop for the last three weeks. I have one week to go. I couldn't even get her to relax one simple minute.. But the invites are complete. The favors are still in the making or actually (if you have a teen you will understand this..) still up for the debate! I laugh, because I see myself in this child more and more every day!!


Four invites later... she finally decided on this one..

with the palms in the middle.. and she was too excited to leave ONE blank for me to get picture at the time! URGH!!! {{sigh, this will get better}}










Next it was favor discussion:





It started out with that face she makes when she doesn't like anything... then it went to a deciding face... then she said "Not now, I am not sure.".. and then a week later we were back at it. She isn't totally convinced this is what she wants. Things might get ugly.. especially if the list grows to the point where I need more paper!





I used the Matchbox die, and I love these little boxes.

All items are made with the new Tropical Oasis DSP in the Summer mini catalog. I love the prints and am finding I have been reaching for it with all that I create lately. Next I want to book my little tropical vacation!
